techniques twenty-seconds 22 July 2012

Here is a tutorial shared today by our designer Kim Price!!!

I thought I could share with you today a few tips on how I get my alpha stickers straight, and probably more importantly to me, arranged on my page with dimensional embellishments. I am a HUGE fan of dimension and texture in a LO, but adding titles, journalling or just words to a page can be a challenge if your scrapping style is anything like mine. Here is how I go about it..

And here's a great idea on how to recycle some of that cellophane packaging we all have loads of but just throw away. Cut a piece of the packaging to measure larger than your intended title. Be generous - you were only going to throw it out anyway!

The next step is to rule a line onto some scrap paper as a guide to where to place your stickers. Adhere the cellophane packaging over the drawn line using sticky tape or the like, being careful not to place sticky tape where your letters will go, and begin adding your letters to form either a phrase or a single word like a title. Cellophane is quite forgiving in that you can usually lift a sticker back up and re place it again if you're careful. I find that long tweezers come in really handy for this job and I tend not to press my stickers down too much until I am happy with the placement.

When I have finished adding my letters I then carefully remove the cellophane sheet from the sticky tape and, using sharp scissors, cut closely around my letters being careful not to snip them apart. This helps to camouflage the cellophane against your layout/card/project so that there isn't any visible excess.

Besides getting your lettering straight, this allows you to place your titles, phrases etc over the top of other embellishments on your page without any problems! You will probably never want to place those stickers directly onto your layouts again.

Oh, and one more thing? As an added bonus you can also very easily move your words around your page for that perfect placement before you commit! How good is that?!

Thanks for joining us today, and have fun using up those alpha stickers stashed away in your draw.

announcing our guest designer for august - Paula Flávia

In June the prize for our challenges was for one participant to be chosen as guest designer for August, and our winner was Paula Flávia!!!!! Paula has been playing along with our challenges for a while, and she is always such a welcome participant!! Here is her bio:

Hi I am Paula Flávia, from São Paulo, Brazil, I am a 42 year old mom of a boy, he is almost 5 years old now.

I am a pharmacist and I´ve been working with Health Legislation about 15 years...so serious hã?
Yes it is, so scrapping is a nice hobby for me, it makes me fly. I've been scrapbooking since 2008, a few months later my boy came to this world.

Like almost all scrapppers my kiddo was my starting point....lol...I still love so much to scrap his baby photos.

Nowadays I am in love with clean layouts, but I can´t define just one style I really like so I don´t often repeat the same thing.

Some people asked me about my scrap signature, well this I have - it´s handwritting, I just love it, so even in the pages where I type my journaling I have at least one word or my name handwritten.

Here are a few new members of our design team!!!

Leila Cassimira

I'm 35, I am married and have two beautiful children who are my greatest source of inspiration, love being in touch with nature and also am passionate about pets, dogs, cats, turtles and many others.

I live in Arararuma, a beautiful region in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil, where we have beautiful beaches and lagoons to enjoy and relax.

Hi,

my name is Maria, but I'm known as Karmeleiro. You probably think, that my nick is strange. Yes, indeed! It comes from my cats' names: Karmel and Eiro. I live in Poland at the Baltic Sea. I'm a mother of two kids: Bruno (5) and Zofia (1.5). I'm a teacher but now I'm taking care of the younger daughter so I have more time to scrap and craft. I fell in love with that hobby 2 years ago and I feel more and more involved in. Some time ago I became LO and mini album addicted! I love that innocent time while playing with paper and stuff. You may find hand made flowers and some fabrics in my works. I can't live without distress inks, love pastel colors but sometimes I turn to darker ones.

Currently I'm a member of The ScrapCake and Rapakivi DTs. They produce fabulous papers! I also run my mini challenge blog and with three other fantastic girls a national website “Scrapujace Polki” that gathers most of Polish Scrappers. We let them play and take part in different kinds of scrap&paper crafting challenges there.

I feel extremely excited and honoured to be Guest Designer here at Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge! I even still can't believe it! I hope that my works inspire you in some ways and you have much fun while making your own projects!
You can visit Karmeleiro's blog here!!

Hi, I’m Monique Liedtke and I live in The Netherlands with my husband, 3 kids (Manon 15, Timothy 12 and Mats 7) and our Cocker Spaniel, Jippie. I started scrapbooking about 9 years ago and am totally addicted, there’s nothing I’d rather do! I don’t have my own scrap room, but I guess you could say I claimed just about the whole house, LOL! I would love to spend every day scrapping from morning till night, but as that’s not possible I work part-time in a small HR office in town.

My scrap pages are always full of colors and details. My favorite technique is sewing on my projects, both with the sewing machine and by hand. My favorite projects are mini-albums, but creating layouts is what I do most. I spend way too much time behind my computer hopping from one blog or online gallery to the next, on the lookout for fun projects. I love to participate in challenges and am very honored I was asked to be May’s guest designer for “Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge”! At the moment I’m on the design teams of Doodlebug Design and My Little Shoebox! Two of my very favorite manufacturers! I’m fortunate enough to have been published several times, a.o. in Scrapbook Magazine UK, Scrap Art Zine (Germany) and Scrapbook Trends. If you want to see more of my work please visit my blog: www.moniquesscrapbook.blogspot.com.

Kim Price

Hi there! My name is Kim and I live on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia with my husband of 20 years and two teenaged daughters. My girls are a huge inspiration to me and I love nothing better than preserving my photographs of them in a layout.
I discovered scrapbooking in 2002 during an extended caravaning holiday around Australia, and it completely captured my imagination. I will never forget the day I first walked into a scrapbooking shop – it was like a little piece of heaven! All those photographs we were taking to document our holiday now had an outlet, and I have been papercrafting ever since.
I love many different styles of scrapbooking and I tend to dabble a little in them all, but my true style could probably be described as a bit artsy, whimsical, free-style, COLOURFUL! and sometimes with no rhyme or reason. I try to capture a feeling from a photograph and then build my page around that.
I am so happy to be included on the Design Team for Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge, and I am honoured to have been placed amongst such great talent. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone here better – to share, inspire, be inspired and encourage.

shining stars on the seventh - 7 july 2012

Was so pleased when Angela (Toucan Scraps) sent me her daughter Princess TJs work to publish for "Shining Stars on the Seventh".  It's been a while since anyone has shared their children's work to feature in this spot.

Angela tells us that Princess TJ now DTs for Meredith Cardall once a month. She used Meredith's SnowPals Kit and Build Your Own Snow Pal add on.

 Loving TJs layout!!!

If your child does scrapbooking, cardmaking or other art or crafts that you would like to feature here, please send photos of their work to me to run on the 7th of any month.  We will not publish anything sent directly by a child, and will only publish what is sent by a mom who we know at this blog.

The challenge for the first of July is to scrap about YOUR COUNTRY or ethnic group – what it means to you, you dressed in traditional garments, you celebrating the national day for your country, or something else along these lines. The inspiration for this challenge is that on July 1st we celebrate Canada Day here where I live!
