freaking HUGE shake-up and change here ...

I know, I know, we are creatures of habit and we all hate changes - but ...

... i have a really good reason for this assault to your senses -  i am getting confused sometimes ...

It seemed like a good idea at the time when I started this blog - but because our 30th prompt challenge is, in fact a challenge for the next month, and not for the month that the 30th falls on, well, it is confusing me and some other people.  It is hard to remember that you are playing for the next month`s prize along with the 15th sketch challenge of that month - so we are going to do something pretty radical here - yes, the 30th prompt challenge will now be the 1st prompt challenge ... yes, i am serious, we are going to do something that radical ...

not only are we changing the date of the prompt challenge - we are not even going to give you some time to get used to it - we will start on the 1st of November - yes, of this year ...

i`m sorry - but you will like it eventually - and I will not change the date of Christmas ... or your birthday ...

shining stars on the seventh - our first!!!

Angela's (Toucan Scraps) daughter TJ has been busy scrapping away and showing her stuff online. We think her work is MARVELLOUS!! Here is a layout she made of her recent birthday party with her friends!! TJ's work was recently featured on some other scrapbooking challenge blogs - she is really quite a creative young person! Thanks so much for sharing TJ's work with us Angela!!

design by T.J.

And speaking of creative, Mitralee's daughter Lexi is quite an artist herself.  You can read the story of this featured piece of her work here: (please go to Mitralee's blog for the story - it is so funny!!) Lexi has an incredible talent for capturing emotion with her pencil - just a few short strokes and she has managed to capture a myriad of emotions on her faces in this piece of work. Thanks so much for sharing with us Mitralee!!!

If you have a young artistic geniuis with a flair for scrapbooking, card-making, altered objects or other paper art, please send along his or her work to us to feature on the 7th of each month.  We will not accept work submitted directly from children, but would love to hear from moms who hang out here on our blog regarding their children's work.

I have a link to share this week.  It is to Scrapfest in Oshawa Ontario this week.  Lisa Furtney - owner and organizer - always puts on a wonderful crop, merchandise mall and classes at her events.  Anyone near enough to participate should do so at this event, or at her spring event in April at Kitchener Ontario.

30th september 2011 prompt challenge - school days

I'm excited about our newest challenge - scrap your school days – your own school days incorporating three of: a photo of you back in the day, or a momento from those years , perhaps: a song title, lyrics or album cover from that era, your favourite school subject, or a page from one of your texts, diaries or notebooks , a scan or your yearbook – whatever is representative of your school days. Maybe you could include a memory of those days in your blog posting. We'd prefer if you scrap your own school days - as we like to encourage our followers to scrap about themselves to leave a legacy for their family - but you can scrap your children's school days if you prefer. This month's prize is a $25 gift certificate to the Scrapping Bug!!! You have until the 31st of October to submit a layout to be eligible for the prize and be considered as one of our favourites!!!

announcing shining stars on the seventh

Angela from Toucan Scraps was kind enough to share two links in this week's monday's mentions posting of the mentions her young daughter received for her scrapping work.  Her sharing of her daughter's amazing work inspired me to think that it might be a nice idea to feature work from our young people on the 7th of every  month here.

So if you play along here, are a member here, or visit us - and your son or daughter like to scrapbook or paper craft (we might even consider other art if we don't get too many scrapping submissions), please share some photos of their work for us to post on the 7th of the month.  First names or nicknames only for the children, please, and we will be introducing them as NAME, son or daughter of MOTHER'S FIRST NAME, and MOTHER'S BLOG ADDRESS.

We are interested only in submissions that mothers send along on behalf of their children.  We are not interested in submissions directly submitted by young people for this feature.

Let's see if there is interest out there!!

This week I want to celebrate belatedly with our designer Bev Cunningham.  She was chosen as Primas Product pick for August and was also featured in the Prima BAP contest. You can see it here!!! Congratulations!!

Karen Wray was a fave at Sketchy Thursdays this past week - great layout Karen!!

Please send me an e-mail at anne.pennington@xplornet.com whenever you are mentioned so that we can celebrate it with you! Please don't be modest - as we cannot celebrate and share your happiness if we don't happen upon it on the web or hear the news from you or other scrappers.  If you hear of others who hang out with us here at another Freaking scrapping challenge ... please let us know and provide a link if you can!

technique twenty-second - September 2011

This month's technique twenty-second tutorial is given to us by design team member Donna O'Leary!!

Hello all, Anne asked me to share a fav technique that I use all the time. So tonight I am going to show you how I love to add Glossy Accents by Ranger to make your own dimensional embellishments.

You will Need.

  • A bottle of Glossy Accents
  • A sheet of pattern paper to cut images out of for your project
  • A good sharp pair of scissors.

I have used a guitar pattern paper for my project.

1) Collect all the materials that you need. A spare piece of scrap paper would also be handy.

2) Choose the images that you would like to use on your project, and cut out using your sharp scissors.

3) Place your images onto your scrap paper. Open your glossy accents, remembering not to shake the bottle as this will cause air bubbles. If your bottle is blocked use a very fine pin to unblock. If you use a thick one you will widen the tip and it will come out to quick!

4) Apply glossy accents all over your image. Then move your scrap paper with images still on, to the side where you can let it dry and not be disturbed. Glossy accents takes a while to dry. In the picture you can see that is cloudy. When it is dry it will be clear.

Once dry attach to projects.

Here's a finished project I used these guitars on.

Awesome Donna - thank you!!!!
